MWH, Microvi pursue water treatment opportunities

   Wet infrastructure engineering firm MWH Global (Broomfield, CO) has formed a partnership with Microvi Biotechnologies (Hayward, CA) under which the two companies will pursue opportunities in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region to deploy Microvi’s biocatalytic water and wastewater treatment technologies. In Australia, MWH and Microvi are working on commercial projects that involve the treatment of wastewater to remove organic carbon, nitrates, ammonia, and other pollutants. Outside of Australia, the two companies are forming plans to work with three major water utilities to develop large-scale demonstration plants using the Microvi technologies. Microvi claims that its treatment systems provide a number of benefits, including smaller footprint, low energy demand, easy scalability, and no generation of secondary waste or sludge.
