Former GM adds $51 million to environmental liabilities

The restructured General Motors Corp. (GM) has agreed to pay another $51 million to resolve environmental liabilities at 34 sites in 11 states, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced. The $51 million adds to an existing GM settlement with the federal government of $773 million, which is going toward the cleanup of 89 sites in 14 states, including 47 sites in Michigan. Of the $51 million, $15.1 million will be paid in cash, while the rest will be met with stock and warrants in the restructured GM. One of the largest portions of the new settlement is an earmark of $4.2 million for the Flint West site in downtown Flint, Michigan.
