Description
Environmental Business Journal, Volume 37 Numbers 11/12: Q4 Environmental Consulting & Engineering 2024
Environmental Business Journal®’s annual analysis of the environmental consulting & engineering industry in 2024 presents detailed data on the market and C&E industry competitors with multiple charts and tables and an updated forecast. Executive perspective on the impact of the Trump II administration sheds light on industry consensus on sectors and services that may suffer or benefit. Either way most executives expect the impact on their business to be minimal and overcome by some change of focus.
Following almost 20 pages of C&E industry overview, and seasoned perspective from two leading environmental law firms, company Q&A profiles expand on natural resource and air quality markets and adjacent services.
Environmental consulting & engineering grew more than 10% in 2022 and 2023, and likely will in 2024 when the final tally is complete. These were the first years of consecutive double-digit growth rates since the late 1980s post RCRA and CERCLA era, a more impressive feat now that the U.S. environmental C&E industry will surpass $50 billion in 2025. Sustaining this growth has been infrastructure funding and domestic energy production which looks sure to continue; and voluntary ESG and PFAS and other environmental liability investments that may not be on such firm ground in the short term. Climate risk and energy transition investments may waver in 2025, but are the foundation of another decade or two of growth for professional services firms focused on energy, climate and the environment.
