ALLETE to purchase Pennsylvania wind farm
ALLETE Clean Energy (ACE), a wholly owned subsidiary of ALLETE, Inc. (Duluth, MN), has reached an agreement with The AES Corporation (Arlington, VA) under which ALLETE will acquire the 100.5 MW Armenia Mountain Wind facility near Troy, Pennsylvania, for $108 million plus the assumption of existing debt. A minority shareholder in the wind farm has also agreed to sell its share of the facility to ALLETE. The facility, which started up operations in 2009, consists of 67 units of General Electric’s 1.5 MW turbines and is delivering its output to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative and Delmarva Power & Light Co. under PPAs extending through 2025. The Armenia Mountain facility is the fourth wind power plant that ACE has acquired from AES and the seventh in its overall portfolio, bringing the total capacity of the portfolio to 540 MW.
