53 MW of utility-scale solar planned for Mississippi

Mississippi Power, a subsidiary of Southern Co. (Atlanta, GA), announced that it is teaming with two solar power developers to build a pair of utility-scale solar power projects in Mississippi. With turnkey solar power provider Strata Solar (Chapel Hill, NC), Mississippi Power will develop a 50 MW solar project on 450 acres of land at the Hattiesburg-Forrest County Industrial Park near Hattiesburg. Separately, Mississippi Power is working with the U.S. Navy and Hannah Solar (Atlanta, GA) to develop a 3 to 4 MW facility at the Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport. Although the two projects will have very different capacities, they would constitute the largest solar power projects in Mississippi to date, according to Mississippi Power, which will be receiving all of the energy and associated renewable energy credits generated by the projects.
