B&W PGG to install APC system for Colorado utility

Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group, Inc. (B&W PGG), a subsidiary of the Babcock & Wilcox Co. (Charlotte, NC), is part of a consortium that has won a contract from Colorado Springs Utilities to undertake a major air pollution control (APC) project at the utility’s Ray D. Nixon Power Plant south of Colorado Springs. The consortium will serve as the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning contractor for the project, for which B&W PGG will design, manufacture, and construct a spray dryer absorber (SDA) system to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions from the 208 megawatt coal-fired power plant. Colorado Springs Utilities is upgrading the emissions control systems at the plant in order to comply with Colorado’s Regional Haze Implementation Plan. B&W PGG said that its portion of the major capital improvements being undertaken at the plant is valued at approximately $40.3 million.
