UV disinfection market to reach $2.8 billion by 2020

The global market for ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment to treat drinking water, wastewater, and industrial process water has the potential to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.3% from 2014 through 2020, at which point it will be a $2.8 billion market, according to a recent report by Allied Market Research (Portland, OR). Currently, North America accounts for 40% of the UV disinfection market, while chemical-based disinfectants continue to prevail in the developing regions of the world. However, the low installation and operational costs of UV disinfection, as well as the fact that it doesn’t generate much residue that requires further management, is likely to increase the popularity of UV disinfection in these regions over time, as the need to treat water to a high level of purity increases rapidly, the report says.
