MWH Global wins Miami-Dade wastewater upgrade job

The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (MSWASD) has awarded a contract to MWH Global (Broomfield, CO) to provide design and engineering services in connection with the comprehensive rehabilitation of three large wastewater treatment plants in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The project is part of consent decree with the federal government and the state of Florida under which the county is spending $1.6 billion to upgrade and improve its sewer collection and treatment systems to reduce sanitary sewer overflows. Under the contract, MWH Global will prepare preliminary and final designs and construction documents for the upgrade of three wastewater treatment plants: the Central District plant, which treats 143 million gallons per day (mgd), and the North District and South District plants, each of which treats 112.5 mgd. MWH Global will also be responsible for permitting and bid services and design services during the construction phase. Separately, MSWASD has awarded a five-year contract to architecture, engineering, and geospatial design firm Woolpert (Dayton, OH) to review and modify the department’s capacity management, operation, and maintenance (CMOM) plans, as required by the consent decree.
