Clearford Water acquires stake in UV Pure Technologies
Clearford Water Systems Inc. (Ottawa, Ontario) has acquired a 90.7% interest in UV Pure Technologies Inc. (Toronto, Ontario), a manufacturer and distributor of ultraviolet (UV) systems for treating potable water, wastewater, and grey water, for about $2.6 million in cash. UV Pure has installed 14,000 units of its Crossfire system and has averaged 10% annual growth with positive operating earnings in each of the past five years. “We believe UV Pure’s patented Crossfire technology is ideally suited to take advantage of the disinfection market’s move away from chlorine to chemical-free disinfection of water,” said Kevin Loiselle, Clearford’s president and CEO. “Test results indicate that the Clearford One system together with UV Pure’s Crossfire technology can take domestic sewage and produce treated and disinfected water for non-contact use, without the need for a wastewater treatment plant.” Clearford estimates that the market for UV treatment of water and wastewater is valued at more than $1 billion per year.
