Veolia wins €390 million in water contracts in China

Veolia Environnement (Paris, France) has significantly expanded its industrial water treatment business in China through the receipt of two contracts from Tangshan Iron & Steel (TIS), a subsidiary of Chinese steel maker Hebei Iron & Steel Group. Under the contracts, Veolia will build and operate a wastewater treatment facility and will recycle and cool water for a coking plant and a gas-liquefaction plant owned by TIS. Veolia will operate the wastewater treatment unit and the water recycling and cooling equipment for a period of 30 years. The facilities to be built under the contracts, located in Tangshan, will allow the client to reuse approximately 60% of its water resources, according to Veolia. The combined value of the two contracts is approximately €390 million (about $497 million U.S.).
