American Water wins NJ military base contract

The Military Services Group of American Water Works Co. (Voorhees, NJ) has scored another big win with the award of a contract from the U.S. Army to operate and maintain the water and wastewater systems at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. The contract has an estimated value of $297 million, although it will be subject to annual economic adjustments over its 50-year lifetime. Picatinny Arsenal, a research and manufacturing facility located in Morris County about 35 miles west of New York City, “is very important to the nation’s defense, providing products and services to all branches of the U.S. military,” noted Jimmy Sheridan, president of the Military Services Group. The arsenal houses approximately 3,900 civilians—mostly engineers and scientists—as well as military personnel and contractors. With the contract, American Water is now providing water and wastewater services at 11 military stations throughout the United States.
