Long Island to gain 100 MW of solar power

Under the Long Island Power Authority’s second Clean Solar Initiative, PSEG Long Island LLC has selected the developers for 76 solar energy projects generating a combined total of 100 MW of electric power. The selection came after a four-month application process that ended on January 31, 2014, following which PSEG Long Island evaluated a total of 178 proposals from 55 separate entities. As a result of this evaluation, PSEG Long Island settled on a final bid price of $0.1688 per kilowatt-hour to be paid to developers of solar systems of various sizes. “These auction results have yielded a price for solar energy almost 25% below the price being paid for the first feed-in-tariff on Long Island, for a savings of $8.1 million per year,” said Michael Voltz, director of energy efficiency and renewables for PSEG Long Island.
