First Solar consortium signs 52.5 MW PPA in Jordan

A consortium consisting of First Solar, Inc. (Tempe, AZ) and Jordan’s Shams Ma’an Power Generation has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the National Electric Power Co. (NEPCO) under which the consortium will deliver 52.5 MW of the output of a proposed solar power plant in southern Jordan to NEPCO. For the project, which the developers describe as the largest facility of its kind in Jordan, First Solar will supply its thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules and will provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance (O&M) services. The project is part of the Ma’an Development Area (MDA) initiative. “The Shams Ma’an solar power plant represents the future of Jordan’s energy independence,” said Hanna Zaghloul, CEO of Shams Ma’an. “By bringing together industry-leading capabilities, international financing, and advanced thin-film technology that is ideally suited to local conditions, we will establish a regional benchmark for the independent production of power.”
