Suez to build WTE plant in China

SITA Waste Services Ltd., a unit of Suez Environment (Paris, France), will join with Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park and Nantong Economic Technology and Development Area Co. (NETDA) to develop a facility near Shanghai to treat hazardous and medical waste and generate steam and energy for other entities operating in the NETDA industrial park. SITA will hold a 60% interest in the project, which the company expects to generate about €575 million (approximately $794 million U.S.) in sales over the next 30 years. The plant will have the capacity to treat 30,000 tons of hazardous waste and 3,300 tons of medical waste per year. Suez said that the facility will be able to meet both Chinese and European emissions standards.
