Covanta to provide organics management at CT theme park

In its first deal in Connecticut since forming a partnership with Turning Earth, LLC (King of Prussia, PA), Covanta Holding Corp. (Morristown, NJ) has entered into an agreement with the Lake Compounce theme park in Bristol, Connecticut, under which the companies will manage the park’s organic waste streams. Under the agreement, organic waste generated at Lake Compounce, the oldest continuously operating amusement park in North America, will be processed at a new organics recycling facility to be built by Turning Earth in central Connecticut. Covanta will provide education and training for Lake Compounce employees in the collection and separation of organic wastes. In 2011, the state of Connecticut enacted PA-11-217, a law requiring food manufacturers and other distributors of at least 104 tons of source-separated organic (SSO) materials annually to recycle the materials, provided that permitted composting capacity was available.
