SUEZ to manage Marseilles sanitation system

Under a contract valued at €1.2 billion (about $1.63 billion U.S.), SUEZ Environnement (Paris, France) will operate and maintain the sanitation system serving the Provence Métropole district of Marseille (MPM). Under the 15-year contract, SUEZ Environnement plans to invest a total of €60 million to improve operations of the system, including the establishment of a new center to manage the sanitation network and the construction of a new stormwater storage pond near the Géolide wastewater treatment plant to store up to 50,000 cubic meters of runoff during periods of heavy rainfall. “We are going to build the first sanitation service in France that will manage terrestrial sanitation infrastructure [and] the impact on the environment and on the host marine environments in real time and simultaneously,” said Jean-Louis Chaussade, SUEZ Environnement’s CEO.
