Covanta, Clean Energy Fuels to build CNG stations

Covanta Energy Corp. (Morristown, NJ) and Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (Seal Beach, CA) have entered into a partnership under which the two companies will jointly develop compressed national gas (CNG) fueling stations at Covanta facilities throughout the United States. Covanta and Clean Energy Fuels will begin by assessing which of Covanta’s more than 50 locations, including waste-to-energy plants and solid waste transfer stations, will be most suitable for CNG fueling. Each location where the stations are installed would be able to provide CNG fuel for a minimum of 30 garbage trucks per day and, depending on the location, would make fuel available to the public as well. The new partnership expands an existing relationship, under which the first Clean Energy CNG station at a Covanta facility will open at the Essex County Resource Recovery Facility in Newark, New Jersey, later in January.
