GreenHunter acquires disposal wells Ohio, West Virginia

   Aiming to expand is network of facilities for managing wastewater from unconventional oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) operations, GreenHunter Water, LLC, a subsidiary of GreenHunter Energy, Inc. (Grapevine, TX), has acquired two Class II salt water disposal wells, one in Washington County, Ohio, and the other in Ritchie County, West Virginia. The wells are located near the Marcellus and Utica shale formations and serve E&P operations in those regions. The Washington County well has the capacity to receive about 2,000 barrels per day, while the Ritchie County facility has a disposal capacity of about 1,000 barrels per day. “Our Appalachia customer base has grown rapidly throughout the year, driving an increase in demand for salt water disposal capacity,” said Jonathan Hoopes, GreenHunter’s president and COO. “Meanwhile, we anxiously await the day when the Ohio Department of Natural Resources lifts its moratorium on [Underground Injection Control] permit issuance in the state, which has been in effect for one year now.”
