Report: Steep growth for water DBO market

   Global growth in water reuse, recycling, desalination, and other projects designed to better manage water resources will present a significant opportunity for engineering firms to provide services using the design-build-operate (DBO) delivery model, according to a recent report by the market research firm Frost & Sullivan. The water DBO market will grow from $84.68 billion in 2011 to $185.21 billion in 2020, the report said, as governments attempt to address the issues of rapid urbanization, uneven distribution of water resources, poor water quality, and “myopic exploitation” of existing resources. “While construction of new water and wastewater infrastructure is expected to expand in emerging markets, there are enormous modernization and rehabilitation needs in developed nations dedicated to aging infrastructure,” said Paulina Szyplinska, a Frost & Sullivan research analyst. “Growth in developing markets is expected due to expansion of adequate facilities, while that in the developed market will revolve around the improvement of drinking water quality and water reuse.”
