Idaho county approves $60 million waste-to-energy plant

   The board of commissioners of Ada County, Idaho, has approved a five-year agreement with Dynamis Energy, LLC (Eagle, ID) under which Dynamis will finance, build, and operate a $60 million waste-to-energy plant at the county’s Hidden Hollow landfill. The 54,400-square-foot facility will utilize pyrolysis technology to process 250 tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) per day. Dynamis will sell the electricity generated to Idaho Power; those sales will account for all of Dynamis’s earnings from the project. The county will not receive any royalties from the operation but instead will realize savings from the diversion of waste from the landfill. Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012, and the facility is expected to become operational in the late spring of 2013.
