Freedonia projects global membrane market to hit $19.3 billion in 2015

The global market for membranes for treating water will increase at a 9% rate annually and reach $19.3 billion in 2015, according to a recent report by The Freedonia Group Inc. (Cleveland, OH). The fastest growth in the membrane market will take place in the “BRIC” countries—Brazil, Russia, India, and China—and other nations with large, developing industrial bases and stressed water resources, the report concluded. About 46% of the market gains from 2010 to 2015 will take place in the United States and China combined. North America accounted for about one-third of global membrane sales in 2010, and sales growth on the continent will advance at an 8.3% annual pace through 2015. In many of the least developed countries—especially in Africa and parts of southern Asia—growth will be more limited due to the lack of adequate funding the prevalence of local corruption, Freedonia said.
