Our achiever of the week is Pace Analytical Services, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN), winner of a 2010 silver medal in the large firm category (more than $100 million in annual revenue) for sales growth of 18% during 2010 and a compound average growth rate of 12% over the past 15 years, from $20 million in 1996 to $110 million in 2010. Pace has moved from incurring substantial losses to solid profitability and is now the second largest environmental testing company in the United States with 16 laboratories. The company attributes its growth primarily to the development of innovative and uniformly applied infrastructure, especially in information technology (IT). Pace claims to be one of the only large networks of laboratories that has consistently installed and operated the same integrated laboratory integrated management systems (LIMS), on-line data delivery (PacePort), financial reporting and management, internet-based learning management (Pace Yourself), and quality management.
