Waste Management acquires recycling facilities in Mid-Atlantic

Waste Management Inc. (Houston, TX) has strengthened its presence in the Mid-Atlantic recycling market through the acquisition of three recycling facilities from Canusa Hershman Recycling Co. (Baltimore MD) and its affiliates. The three facilities are in Manassas and Springfield, Virginia, and Baltimore, Maryland, and will operate as units of Waste Management Recycle America. The Baltimore facility was jointly owned by Canusa and the Washington Post Co. The newly acquired facilities bring more than 30,000 tons of monthly sorting capacity to Waste Management’s Mid-Atlantic network, including a single-stream recycling facility. Much of business at the former Canusa Hershman facilities was focused on recycled fiber, but they handle other commodities as well.
