MWH receives $83 million contract to begin Austin treatment plant work

Under an $83 million guaranteed maximum price (GMP) contract awarded in January, MWH (Broomfield, CO) has received approval to begin the construction of tunnels and associated wells and shafts for the city of Austin’s Water Treatment Plant No. 4 (WTP4) project. The contract encompasses the construction of a raw-water intake structure, a 9-foot-diameter, concrete-lined raw-water tunnel that connects the intake structure with the raw-water pump station; a 7-foot-diameter, steel-lined transmission tunnel connecting the pump station to WTP4; a “lake tap” connecting the intake structure to the raw water tunnel; and seven pump wells and associated shafts. MWH Constructors was named construction manager-at-risk for the $359 WTP4 project in November 2009.
