Sims acquires in New York, expands in Canada

Australia’s Sims Metal Management has expanded its operations in North America through two actions—the acquisition of a scrap metals recycler in New York State and the opening of an electronic waste processing facility in Ontario, Canada. In New York, Sims Metal Management acquired Utica-based Crash’s Scrap Metals, a company founded in 1953 by the Giovinazzo family. Crash’s owns a facility that will serve as a feeder yard for Sims’ facilities in Albany and Port Albany facilities. In Ontario, Sims Recycling Solutions opened a 287,00 square foot “e-waste” facility in Mississauga to serve the province of Ontario, which now mandates the recycling of computers, printers, and other types of discarded electronic products. The facility includes processes for recycling cathode ray tubes (CRTs), metals, and plastics.
