Sims Recycling picks up e-waste handling capacity in U.K.

Sims Recycling Solutions, a unit of Australia’s Sims Metal Management, has expanded its presence in the U.K. electronics (e-waste) recycling market through the acquisition of the assets of Wincanton PLC. The Wincanton assets include processing plants in Billingham and Daventry that are designed to handle e-waste regulated under the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive; the company also operates a refrigerator recycling plant in Billingham and sorting centers in Harlow and Widnes. Wincanton employs about 146 people. Sims Recycling Solutions has existing U.K. e-waste recycling facilities in Newport, Manchester, Ellesmere Port, and Dumfries.
