Veolia to acquire assets from United Utilities

Veolia Water (Paris, France) has reached an agreement with United
Utilities (Warrington, U.K.) whereby Veolia will acquire some of United
Utilities non-regulated assets in Europe for approximately ?174.2 million
(about $257 million U.S.).
The assets to be acquired include a 58% interest in the Bulgarian water
services company Sofiyska Voda, which provides water supply and treatment
services for the city of Sofia.
Veolia will also acquire a 26% stake in AS Tallinna Vesi, a provider of water supply and treatment services for the
city of Tallinn, Estonia. In United Kingdom, Veolia will acquire a portfolio
of outsourcing, industrial engineering, and infrastructure contracts that,
according to the company, will combine with Veolia’s existing assets in the U.K. to make it
the leading player in the nation’s non-regulated water market.
