Description
In spite of a challenging economic environment and ongoing supply chain issues, the United States climate change industry posted 16.5% growth in revenue to $576 billion in 2022, paced by electric vehicles, energy storage and carbon markets. Renewable energy growth slowed in 2022, but joins the list of high-growth segments for the foreseeable future as momentum builds for the energy transition and climate resilience. EVs and the explosion of carbon market value in 2021 in Europe led to 17% growth in the global climate change industry in 2021 and 21% in 2022 to a total of $3.5 trillion. The USA represents 25% of the global economy but only 17% of the global climate change industry, as geopolitical issues shadow climate change and energy markets.
Climate Change Industry Overview 2023
Climate Change Business Journal® summarizes its annual quantification of the $3.5 trillion global and $576 billion U.S. climate change industries. Transportation and renewable energy segments add the most in revenues in 2022, but energy storage, adaptation & resilience and carbon markets post the highest growth rates.
