WSP closes second quarter with accelerating growth and record backlog

WSP (Montreal, Canada) reported revenues and net revenues for the second quarter ended June 26, 2026 reached C$5.4 billion and C$4.27 billion, up 19.9% and 22.9%, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2025. Net revenue organic growth accelerated to 5%, driven by growth across all reportable segments. Net revenue acquisition growth of 17.1% was principally driven by the acquisitions of TRC Companies and Ricardo plc. Backlog reached a record C$20.1 billion and grew 23.2% year-over-year, with organic growth of 5.7% over the last 12 months, representing WSP’s strongest organic backlog growth performance since 2022. WSP reported that TRC’s Power & Energy business delivered double-digit net revenue growth compared to the corresponding pre-acquisition period, and that the TRC integration is on track.

Veritas Capital to acquire Trinity Consultants

Veritas Capital is acquiring Trinity Consultants (Dallas), a provider of engineering and consulting services focused on environmental compliance, ecological protection, infrastructure performance, and pharmaceutical development. Veritas will acquire Trinity from Oak Hill Capital, which will reinvest as a minority shareholder. Trinity President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Greywall will continue to lead the company, and Trinity’s management team and broader employee base will still hold a meaningful ownership stake. Trinity has a global team of 2,000-plus specialists across more than 100 offices worldwide. “We believe the Company is at a growth inflection point where we are uniquely positioned to be its next partner,” said Daniel Sugar, a Veritas Capital partner, noting that Veritas will support Trinity’s strategy to “drive account growth, accelerate investment in technology, and expand capabilities through acquisitions.”

Stantec enhances environmental services across Australia

Stantec (Edmonton, Canada) announced the acquisition of Niche (Sydney, Australia), a 200-person environmental consultancy, along with its wholly owned subsidiary, Ausecology, a specialist in ecology, biodiversity offsetting and land restoration. Niche brings a strong Australian east coast presence and a focus on balancing infrastructure and development with conservation and cultural stewardship. The acquisition enhances Stantec’s environmental services capabilities across Australia while increasing its presence in key sectors like energy, transportation, resources, land development, and land management. Niche’s additional biodiversity consulting business will be a new service for Stantec. Niche serves approximately 200 clients and boosts Stantec’s environmental services team in Australia to nearly 450 professionals.

KMB Design Group expands solar, energy storage, and data center capacity

Engineering firm KMB Design Group (Wall Township, N.J.) announced the acquisition of Hurricane Hill Development Company (Amherst, N.H.), an electrical engineering firm specializing in renewable energy design, utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, power systems for data centers, and telecommunications infrastructure. Terms were not disclosed. Demand for licensed electrical engineers has accelerated sharply across North America, driven by data center development, grid modernization, etc. The two firms combined create a 75-person national platform spanning energy, telecommunications, and building systems engineering — including solar, battery storage, EV charging, and data center power. 

Verdantas announces three more acquisitions 

Pax Environmental Inc. (Ojai, Calif.), a full-service environmental consulting firm of nearly 75 staff, has joined Verdantas (Tampa, Fla.). Pax Environmental brings expertise in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance, ecological restoration and cultural and natural resources, including biological, water, and wetlands capabilities. Also in August, Verdantas announced the acquisition of Sherwood Design Engineers (San Francisco, Calif.), a national civil engineering and sustainable infrastructure firm founded in 2003. Sherwood’s multidisciplinary team of approximately 120 professionals operates from eight offices across the United States and Latin America. At the end of July, Verdantas strengthened its capabilities in complex remediation and brownfield redevelopment by acquiring Environmental Protection Industries (South Holland, Ill.), a full-service environmental consulting and remediation firm. 

Carollo to design new water reclamation plant in Texas

Carollo Engineers (Walnut Creek, Calif.) has been selected to design and provide engineering services for the Bob Derrington Water Reclamation Plant in Odessa, Texas. The appointment builds on Carollo’s prior work at the site, including a condition assessment and facility master plan. This project supports Odessa’s goal to modernize the facility while maintaining uninterrupted wastewater treatment and reuse service. Upgrades include new facilities with modern major process and support systems across the plant, starting at the headworks and extending through disinfection, reclaimed-water delivery, and solids handling. Works also involve odor control, mechanical and piping infrastructure, proven treatment processes, pumping and conveyance, and electrical power and controls.  Originally constructed in 1977, the plant is rated to treat an average daily flow of 12.7 million gallons per day.

EA contracted for statewide and multistate litter studies

EA (Hunt Valley, Md.) has been contracted by the State of Washington, Department of Ecology to conduct a statewide litter study and a subsequent multi-state comparison study. To reduce the environmental, health, and economic impacts of littering, the statewide study will evaluate trends and make recommendations to effect substantial change in littering behavior and reduce litter. In the “first-of-its-kind” littering comparison study, EA will look at pickup and prevention programs in 25 states to identify best practices to improve Washington’s policies and programs. EA’s team of subconsultants includes Cascadia Consulting Group. Both studies will be supported by an advisory panel with experts from Keep America Beautiful, Zero Waste Washington, City of Tacoma, and Seattle Public Utilities.

Arcadis supports Blackstone’s multi-billion acquisition in France

Arcadis (Amsterdam, Netherlands) announced recently supporting Blackstone on technical and carbon due diligence for its circa €2.3 billion acquisition of Proudreed’s industrial real estate portfolio and operating platform in France. Completed in May, the transaction is reported to be one of the largest industrial real estate transactions in France in recent years. The portfolio comprised approximately 500 industrial assets nationwide. To meet the project’s scale and accelerated timeline, 120 “Arcadians” across France, Spain, United Kingdom, Poland, Germany and United States were mobilized.

Mainline Environmental expands environmental consulting and lab services across New York 

Mainline Environmental (Mine Hill, N.J.) announced the acquisition of Lozier Environmental Consulting (Rochester, N.Y.), an environmental consulting and accredited laboratory firm. The acquisition expands Mainline Environmental’s statewide footprint, adding a strong presence in Western New York. Founded over 20 years ago, Lozier Environmental offers environmental consulting, asbestos services, water and food testing, mold assessments, lead testing, radon testing, and accredited laboratory services. Lozier’s leadership team and employees will remain in place, and the company will operate as Lozier Environmental Consulting, A Mainline Environmental Company. The acquisition supports Mainline’s strategy of building a network of leading regional environmental firms. 

Entergy Louisiana selects ICF for $35M energy efficiency contract

ICF (Reston, Va.) has been awarded a new $35 million contract by Entergy Louisiana to implement the utility’s residential, commercial and industrial energy efficiency portfolio. ICF will support the full energy efficiency program lifecycle for all programs within Entergy’s portfolio, including program design and delivery, trade ally and large customer management, technical support, customer marketing and communications, data management and performance tracking. The company’s integrated delivery model unites residential, commercial and industrial programs under a consistent structure, streamlining execution while allowing for program-specific customization. ICF will also use Sightline, a utility customer platform for analytics and insights.

Clemson University unveils solar-integrated, energy-positive EV

Clemson University in South Carolina has unveiled Deep Orange 17, an electric vehicle prototype designed to generate more energy than it consumes during a typical day of urban commuting. More than 1,700 photovoltaic cells are integrated directly into the vehicle’s exterior surfaces, allowing the body itself to harvest energy while both parked and in motion. The solar panels use an innovative construction that continues generating power even when portions of the panels are shaded. The prototype (model name Luminetta) was developed in collaboration with BMW’s research and development team. The car weighs approximately one-fourth of many similarly sized vehicles, and its design was inspired by the boxfish, whose streamlined body reduces drag while maintaining interior volume.

Bowman Consulting to be taken private in billion-dollar deal

National engineering services firm Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. (Reston, Va.) has agreed to be acquired by Bernhard Capital Partners in an all-cash transaction representing an enterprise value of approximately $1 billion. The purchase price represents a premium of approximately 58% to Bowman’s unaffected closing share price on August 7, 2026. Bowman became a public company in 2021 and has over 2,500 employees and 100 offices throughout the United States. Bowman’s ‘Natural Resources’ division reports $50-60 million in annual revenues, with about half of that water. In the first six months of 2026 compared to first six months of 2025, Bowman reported a 16% increase in contract revenue to $272.6 million and net service billing up 16.9% to $243.2 million. The agreement has a “go-shop” provision through mid-September 2026.
