Ecolab to acquire AkzoNobel water technology business

   Ecolab Inc. (St. Paul, MN), a global provider of water, hygiene, and energy technologies and services, and Dutch specialty chemicals producer AkzoNobel have reached an agreement whereby Ecolab will acquire AkzoNobel’s Purate water technology business. Purate generates about $23 million in annual revenue from the sale of antimicrobial water treatment products and the provision of chlorine dioxide programs for a variety of water treatment applications. “Purate’s patented technologies complement our offerings globally, including our 3D TRASAR technology programs, which help address our customers’ needs for clean water within industrial manufacturing and lower total cost of operations,” said Timothy Mulhere, executive vice president of Ecolab Global Water and Process Services. Ecolab acquired the 3D TRASAR technology in its $8.1 billion purchase of Nalco Co. in 2011.
